Brian Tanton, Deputy Head
I have been a special needs teacher for 16 years moving across various classifications of need from Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH), mixed needs, speech and language (SALT) needs, moving finally to Eagle House in 2014.
After leaving teacher training college in 2000, I cut my teeth in a tough South London EBD (SEMH) school in Wandsworth, moving to Lambeth. Whilst working in a mixed needs school (were the primary need was also EBD), I saw the need for specialist SALT support for a vulnerable cohort of pupils and established a separate SALT unit within the school for two classes.
I went on to work as the English teacher at a SALT specialist school in Sutton, finally arriving at Eagle House Group Sutton in 2014 as a class teacher, art teacher, senior teacher and finally, Deputy Head before being seconded to Mitcham in March 2017.
I have worked with children in and out of school environments and am actively involved in youth work, summer camps and holiday clubs.
I am married with 6 children; the youngest of which has a diagnosis of Downs Syndrome.
